SEND

Department for Learning Support

Our Vision
At Bury Church, we believe that every pupil is wonderfully made and deserves to flourish within a caring, inclusive and aspirational Christian community. Guided by our motto, “Let your light shine", our SEND provision ensures that all pupils are supported, valued, and empowered to achieve their full potential, academically, socially and spiritually.

SEND Policy – Summary of Aims
  • To provide full entitlement and access for all pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) to a broad, balanced and ambitious curriculum, including access to the National Curriculum and public examinations, enabling each pupil to fulfil their God-given potential.
  • To promote inclusion by educating pupils with SEND alongside their peers wherever possible, within a supportive learning environment that fosters belonging and equality of opportunity.
  • To nurture self-esteem, confidence and resilience, empowering every pupil to take pride in their achievements and develop a joy in learning.
  • To prepare pupils for life beyond school, supporting their next steps into further education, employment or training through personalised enhanced transition planning and careers guidance.
  • To build strong partnerships with parents, carers, governors and external professionals, ensuring that all voices are heard and that decisions about provision are made collaboratively and transparently.
  • To uphold SEND as a whole-school responsibility, ensuring that every teacher is accountable for the progress and wellbeing of all pupils in their care through high-quality first teaching and appropriate support.
  • To celebrate success by recognising progress in all its forms, academic, social, emotional and spiritual, and ensuring that every pupil feels valued as a member of the Bury Church family.

Our approach :

The SEND Department operates within a framework of early identification, high-quality first teaching, and the Graduated
Approach (Assess → Plan → Do → Review).
Provision is tailored to individual needs and may include:
  • In-class support and differentiated learning.
  • Targeted literacy or numeracy interventions.
  • Access to technology to aid learning.
  • Individual One Page Profiles and personalised strategies.
  • Collaboration with external specialists such as Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and CAMHS.
  • Enhanced transition arrangements and study support sessions.
