Technology
Department Vision
The Technology curriculum is designed to develop students curiosity, problem solving skills and improving their future outcomes both in terms their lifestyle and potential future careers. The curriculum develops students that are able to work both independently and collectively as a team. Students develop technical and practical competencies as well as a wider soft skills valued by STEM employers.
Within the technology department, students are taught one lesson per week of both food technology and design technology. At KS4, students can chose to build on their KS3 knowledge and take up courses in Design Technology, Construction or Food and Nutrition.
Design Technology Curriculum Design
The curriculum supports students to understand the design process and the importance of identifying the right potential clients/user groups and the right materials with the right properties. Students use their knowledge to create suitable design briefs and specifications, before producing a range of initial ideas and models. Resilience is key in this subject and students need to understand that refinement and re-modelling is essential before a final prototype can be produced.
Food and nutrition Curriculum Design
The Food curriculum is designed to develop students curiosity of the world around them through the foods they can eat. We educate our students in what it means to 'eat a healthy diet' and give them the confidence to make healthy dishes that they can share with their friends and family. Students develop confidence using different ingredients and in using cooking equipment to make a variety of different dishes in a safe and hygienic way.
KS4 Curriculum
We offer two courses currently in Design Technology:
- 3D Design - Part of the Art and Design GCSE
- Design and Technology GCSE
Curriculum Intent
The document below displays the KS4 3D Design curriculum. A key part of the document is the core knowledge section which states the knowledge that we believe all KS4 students should embed within their long term memory in order to be success in 3D Design. This list should be used to prioritise your revision before moving onto deeper knowledge within the curriculum.
Design and Technology will be uploaded soon.
